Job Description
Objective:
Plan and estimate all aspects of fabrication.
Principal Duties:
The following duties outline the key responsibilities for this position but do not encompass all possible work requirements. Not all individuals in this role will perform every task listed.
- Analyze and interpret aerospace prints.
- Prepare planning documents related to parts.
- Develop manufacturing procedures for assembly, composites, and manufacturing processes.
- Estimate costs for assembly, composites, and manufacturing using engineering models.
- Obtain cost and material estimates from sub-contractors.
- Plan the workflow of parts through production.
- Ensure all engineering and customer specifications, including material finishes, material processing, and quality requirements, are met.
- Work with the MRP system, including tool orders, item masters, planning, and document control functions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of shop floor operations in assembly, composites, and manufacturing.
- Develop and implement work studies and related programs.
- Conduct work measurement studies and other analyses.
- Collect and compile operational data, assisting in the development of estimates, schedules, specifications, and reports.
- Prepare cost estimates, project schedules, and reports.
- Develop integrated manufacturing procedures.
- Analyze and implement cost-reduction strategies.
- Design, develop, and conduct time studies and work simplification programs.
- Utilize CAD data to support planning and fabrication.
- Visit other facilities to coordinate work and assist with fabrication.
- Assure configuration control and track contractor performance.
- Perform other duties as required by the company.
Responsibilities:
This position requires independent planning and ensuring accuracy in meeting customer and specification requirements. The individual must ensure all quality, manufacturing, and configuration control standards are met, and that quotes and estimates fully encompass all manufacturing and inspection costs and requirements.
Health & Safety:
The employee is responsible for working safely, following legislated safety standards and the company’s safe work practices and procedures. Additionally, the employee should ensure the workplace remains safe by notifying management of potential hazards and suggesting improvements.
Job Working Conditions:
General office environment, with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and heat when supporting shop floor activities.
Physical/Mental Effort:
This role requires mental focus and concentration, significant use of memory, and the ability to analyze and plan work. Minimal physical effort is required, with infrequent walking and lifting.
Skills Required:
A Mechanical/Aerospace Engineer in this role must be proficient in using computers and associated software (e.g., estimating programs) as well as the MRP system to carry out the listed objectives. The ability to read, understand, and accurately interpret technical documents is essential. Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate detailed information clearly through work instructions and oral communication with the workforce are also necessary.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent (4 years).
- 3 to 5 years of relevant on-the-job experience.
- A Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering certificate or degree is an asset.
Qualification Assessment:
Ongoing informal observation and assessment of work performance provide continuing evidence of skills and proficiency.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
