Job Description

Industrial Electrician

This position is accountable for the efficient operation of all the equipment and instrumentation throughout the facility, both inside and outside the building. This position is also responsible for the successful utilization of the Computerized Maintenance Management System.

This position accomplishes the organizational objectives by ensuring that all equipment and instrumentation is operating at optimal levels

  1. MAJOR TASKS PERFORMED BY THIS POSITION
  1a. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - (PERFORMED BY INCUMBENT HIMSELF/HERSELF AS OPPOSED TO THOSE FUNCTIONS PERFORMED THROUGH SUBORDINATES. THESE FUNCTIONS SHOULD REPRESENT THOSE THAT MUST BE ACCOMPLISHED BY THE INCUMBENT ONLY.)
 
  • Advocate and practice the principles of the SMART safety program
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and activities
  • Participate in and utilize continuous improvement tools and teams where applicable: i.e. Lean, PM program, 5 S’s, etc.
  • Participate in housekeeping activities that are indicative of a safe and clutter free work environment
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System for accessing maintenance operating procedures, Preventive Maintenance tasks, management of the Mechanical Storeroom and operating the Work Order system
  • Participate in the development of Standard Operating Procedures for equipment &
Maintenance tasks; regularly use these documents to ensure safe and efficient maintenance
work
  • Assist in the capture and upkeep of accurate equipment information in the Computerized Maintenance Management System database
  • Participate in the initial installation & upkeep of equipment and piping labels as required
by plant policy
  • Understanding of electrical and pneumatic
  • Develop personal skills through ongoing training both at the plant and through outside training classes
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of effective Preventative Maintenance
program
  • Perform required Preventative Maintenance tasks including data logging, calibrations, inspections, fluid testing & changes, replacement of worn parts, equipment rebuilds etc.
  • Follow the daily work schedule & project schedule as developed by the
Maintenance Manager
  • Make timely reporting & documentation of equipment breakdowns or mis-operation; provide troubleshooting to minimize downtime of plant equipment
  • Record information required for work order closure time-spent on task, details on the work performed, additional work required and the parts that were used
  • Assist in the cleanliness, labeling and upkeep in the mechanical storeroom to provide high
spare parts availability and accurate inventory counts
  • Maintain equipment and assist in development of operating procedures that comply with
OSHA, EPA and Provincial and local agencies to ensure worker safety and limit company
             liabilities
  • Be active in the Emergency Response Team; be a leader in safety, quality and environmental activities
  • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment as required and follow all Safe Work Practice elements (Lock-Out/Tag-Out, Hot Work, Confined Space, Line Break, Controlled Access etc.)
  • Must have completed an electrical apprenticeship
  • Must be licensed in Ontario as an Electrical Contractor and certified by the Electrical Safety Authority
      1b. PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES/CAPABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS.
 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs or balance; and stoop, kneel, twist,
crouch or crawl
  • The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus 
  • Must be able to communicate orally and in writing
  • Must have good reading and listening skills

  • Knows and willingly practices all safety rules and procedures including the wearing of appropriate safety apparel.
  • Willingly participates in and works to improve the safety program. Instructs others in safe operating procedures.
  • Monitors and implements all aspects of the SMART safety program
  • Assists in all safety incident investigations including written reports on incidents and safety observations.
  • Ensures security measures are taken, locking/unlocking gates, entrances utilizing the checklist for the site.
  • Conducts safety talks/training as required.
  • Collect and review daily start-up/safety sheets, ensures corrective actions are taken as needed.
  • Collects and reviews all daily forklift inspections, ensures corrective actions are taken as needed.
  • Monitors and enforces day to day safety practices of their employees (including but not limited to; use of proper PPE, proper grounding and bonding procedures, use of supplied safety devices, use of ventilation at the workstations, etc.).
