The Opportunity
As a Junior Controller, you’ll be at the forefront of our client’s financial operations, handling accounting, payroll, and HR functions. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently. What You’ll Do
Finance
- Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, including operating statements, balance sheets, and supporting schedules.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with policies and accuracy of financial records.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts monthly, including receivables, assets, payables, and bank accounts.
- Analyze financial data, monitor budget performance, and recommend corrective actions to meet budget goals.
- Prepare federal tax returns and assist in year-end audit preparations.
- Manage time tracking and process bi-weekly payroll, including remittance of withholdings.
- Oversee employee onboarding, including preparation and collection of payroll/personnel documentation.
- Maintain accurate payroll and personnel records while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
- Draft HR documentation, such as policies, reports, and job descriptions, as needed.
- Monitor compliance requirements and recommend updates to policies and procedures to align with industry best practices.
- Handle sensitive employee and organizational information with utmost confidentiality.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Expertise in accounting, financial, and payroll processes.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and organizational prowess.
- Exceptional time management and prioritization skills.
- Solid understanding of ASPE, payroll legislation, and regulatory requirements in Ontario/Canada.
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in accounting and/or payroll.
- Working towards a finance designation (e.g., CPA or equivalent) is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with payroll software (e.g., Ceridian) is an asset.
- High ethical standards with the ability to manage confidential information.
