Job Description
Position Summary
The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for cutting, shaping, and assembling sheet metal components used in construction, manufacturing, or specialized industries such as aviation or HVAC. This role involves working from technical drawings and specifications to produce precise metal parts using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
- Measure, cut, and bend sheet metal using tools such as brake presses, shears, rollers, and hand tools.
- Operate various fabrication machines to form and assemble metal parts according to specifications.
- Weld or fasten sheet metal parts together using soldering, riveting, or spot-welding equipment.
- Fit and assemble components to ensure structural integrity and dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect completed products to ensure they meet quality control standards and tolerances.
- Perform repairs or modifications on existing sheet metal components.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations, maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (technical diploma preferred)
- sheet metal experience
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Skilled in the use of fabrication tools and machinery
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
- Understanding of safety practices and procedures in a shop environment
- Ability to pass a Controlled goods assessment
Preferred Skills
- Welding certification (e.g., MIG, TIG)
- Forklift or crane operation certification
- Familiarity with CNC metalworking machines
- Experience working in aerospace, HVAC, or construction fabrication settings
Working Conditions
- Indoor fabrication shop or onsite installation environment
- Exposure to machinery noise, metal dust, and use of personal protective equipment
- May involve standing, lifting, bending, and repetitive motion for extended periods
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: negotiable
Expected hours: 40 per week
